Design
A civic hall and assembly chamber for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, on a site poised between natural woodland and the centre of Ghana's second city.
Inspired by the Ashanti porcupine, the complex houses an assembly chamber and conference centre as well as substantial office space, and forms the focal point of the KMA's Green Action Plan for Kumasi.
To be built in sustainable local materials, the modern, open design provides a dramatic and appropriate setting within which the long-standing inclusive democratic tradition of Ashanti society can continue to flourish.
